Natural materials are used generously throughout, paired with clean contemporary detailing for a home that feels relaxed, modern and personal.

The arrival sets the tone. A new gabled entry portico with a VJ-lined soffit and dark posts frames a solid timber front door with a sculptural half-moon handle and glazed sidelights, over pale stone paving. The original brickwork has been painted to tie old and new together.

Inside, wide oak floorboards run throughout. The kitchen combines oak base cabinetry with charcoal overhead cupboards and a travertine-style benchtop and splashback, with a black farmhouse sink set beneath a window splashback that looks into the garden. A painted timber island with a stone top gives the kitchen a characterful, furniture-like centrepiece.

In the entry, a floating steel staircase with timber treads and a frameless glass balustrade rises against a deep burgundy feature wall, lit by a ring pendant above. The main bedroom sits beneath a raked VJ ceiling with concealed LED lighting and a highlight window to the treetops.

The bathrooms are bright and fresh. The main bathroom has a herringbone marble floor, a freestanding bath, twin vessel basins on a floating vanity and backlit round mirrors. A second bathroom brings in personality with patterned blue encaustic-style floor tiles and a walk-in shower.

The living areas open through large timber-framed sliding doors to a covered deck with a VJ-lined ceiling and an outdoor cooking area, extending the home into the garden for year-round living.

Renovating an established home means working with what’s already there. New finishes, joinery and structure had to integrate cleanly with the existing house, so the result feels considered and complete rather than pieced together.
